Speech & Language Pathology Services
Purpose of Program
The Speech and Language services are provided to a student when students from ages 3 through 21 who may exhibit deficits in one or more of the following areas: articulation, phonological processes, fluency, voice production, receptive and/or expressive language. When a student's speech/language functioning appears to affect his/her educational performance/development, a school Speech/Language Pathologist should be contacted. The Speech/Language Pathologist may conduct a screening and/or provide the student's teacher and/or parent/caregiver with intervention strategies/materials/modifications they can use with the student in the classroom or home environment. If, following a reasonable period of time, the student continues to display speech and language deficits that interfere with educational progress, a referral for a special education evaluation may be initiated.
Program and Service Activities Provided:
- Evaluation of students referred for consideration of the need for speech and language services.
- Participate on the IEP team as assigned, including the preparation of the timely and appropriate individual IEP team member reports.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Individual Education Plan as requested.
- Provide direct speech and language instruction/consultation
- Provide training (including in-services) as necessary for those involved with the child’s program.
- Provide communication and follow-up with medical personnel.
- Assist in the completion of the necessary documentation for the purpose of third-party billing.
