Board Goal Setting
The CESA 3 Agency Administrator has been trained in Strategic Planning, DISC, and Certified in District-Wide Goal Setting through Builder’s Lab 360. As a member of CESA 3, school boards can access this expertise to facilitate processes that lead to consensus of priorities. Districts are able to review and leverage Shared Values/Belief Statements, Mission, and Vision statements to create goals that align with them.
Though formats are flexible, there are two that districts choose to use. One is a retreat process that involves 2-3 six-hour days to complete the process. The other is an initial meeting followed by hour segments prior to regularly scheduled board meetings in order to establish goals. In the end, the objective is for board members to identify 3-5 priority areas with 2-3 SMART goals in each area. These goals can be written in a format to share with school employees and community members.
