Early Education Support & Consultation
Our mission is to ensure that every child has a teacher with skills, knowledge, attitude, and resources for children to be capable and confident.
Purpose of Program:
An experienced and certified teacher consultant serves as a resource for information and research on issues in early education -- early childhood special education, preschool, four-year-old kindergarten, and five-year-old kindergarten. The consultant assists schools and communities in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services for young children, including those with disabilities.
Specific On-Site Services Available:
- Assist in the development of child screening programs/conduct child screenings.
- Serve on IEP teams/conduct individual child assessments.
- Assist teachers in selecting appropriate curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment procedures.
- Align existing curriculum and assessment with the WI Early Learning Standards.
- Provide guidance/training in developing appropriate discipline practices consistent with the WI SEFEL (Social Emotional Foundation for Early Learning) initiative.
- Conduct observations/provide recommendations for meeting specific student needs.
- Offer on-site training/workshops for regular and special education staff (early literacy, positive discipline, school readiness, inclusion/preschool options, etc.)
- Conduct parent education on similar topics.
- Conduct on-site classroom/program review and recommendations (may include standardized measures or self-assessment tools/processes).
- Facilitate/consult at school/community meetings on issues of preschool inclusion, collaboration, four-year-old kindergarten, WI Early Learning Standards, WI SEFEL, appropriate curriculum and assessment practices.
Regional Services Available:
- Support the development of interagency transition agreements and practices (B-3, Head Start and local school districts).
- Facilitate regional networking/professional development opportunities for all who serve young children (birth-5).
- Provide technical assistance and training in meeting the SPP requirements specific to early childhood (Indicators 6, 7 & 12).
- WI Model Early Learning Standards training.
- WI Social & Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (SEFEL) training.
