Occupational Therapy Services
Purpose of Program:
Occupational Therapy services are provided when a child with a disability requires this related service to assist the child to benefit from Special Education. Occupational Therapists use purposeful activity to facilitate a child's active participation in self-maintenance; academic and vocational pursuits; and play or leisure activities that occur in school environments. Using direct and indirect services, as well as assistive technology and environmental modifications, school occupational therapists collaborate with parents, teachers and other educational staff to help implement a child's Special Education program.
Program and Service Activities Provided:
- Procurement of necessary physician’s statements (forms).
- Evaluate students referred for consideration of the need for Occupational Therapy.
- Participate on the IEP team as assigned including the preparation of the timely and appropriate individual IEP team member reports.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the individual education plan as requested.
- Provide direct Occupational Therapy/consultation.
- Provide training (including in-services) as necessary for those involved with the child’s program.
- Provide communication and follow-up with medical personnel.
- Assist in the completion of the necessary documentation for the purpose of third party billing.
