Autism Network
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), one in 68 children are identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD); these students typically display general deficits in higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as stronger rote than recognition memory skills (Meyer 2001). With highly individualized symptoms and stressors, a high percentage of school-age students with ASD have reading comprehension difficulties leading to academic disadvantage. (Westerman, et al, 2017) The new Autism Network will provide educators in participating districts access to coaching, training, and individualized problem-solving to support those teaching students with ASD. Services include:
- Beginning-of-the year consultation planning meeting
- Professional development series on Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Monthly coaching visits -- onsite or virtual
- Digital platform and newsletter focusing on Autism topics, problem-solving and resources
- Reduced rate with Achieving Collaboration Together (ACT) for additional scaffolded support
