Family Engagement Services and Assistance
Family Engagement services are available as a resource for parents of children with disabilities and for district staff. This service is designed to foster and maintain positive working relationships between families and educators, to educate parents and family members about special education services provided locally and statewide, and to provide support to families to enhance shared decision making and connect them to resources in the community. In addition, consultation services are available to assist with reviewing Indicator 8 (parent involvement) survey results and other district data, to identify areas in need of improvement in regard to family engagement and involvement, and to assist staff and parents with the development a family engagement plan and a district advisory board or family engagement team. This involvement, mandated by the state and federal governments for children with Individual Education Plans (IEPs), is supported in part by a grant administered through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. This federal grant is referred to as the Wisconsin Statewide Parent -Educator Initiative. For more information about the services and resources that this grant provides, go to www.wspei.org .
