Procedural Compliance Self-Assessment
Purpose of Program:
Cyclical compliance monitoring is conducted through a public agency self-assessment of special education requirements. Each year the WDPI verifies the self-assessments of selected public agencies. The assessment uses samples of students' individualized education program records, interviews, and other sources. The self-assessment includes selected requirements of IDEA 2004 and state law, which are closely related to improving student outcomes. The requirements are related to Wisconsin's Continuous Improvement and Focused Monitoring System (CIFMS) priorities and IDEA State Performance Plan indicators. They were selected with guidance from the Office of Special Education Programs, U.S. Department of Education, and the National Center for Special Education Accountability Monitoring.
Program and Service Activities Provided:
- Provide inservice training to staff involved in the cyclical self-assessment process.
- Complete the activities/reports required by DPI for the self-assessment.
- Ensure the district establishes policies, procedures, and special education forms that comply with special education requirements.
- Districts are monitored for implementation of selected special education requirements at least once during the six-year IDEA State Performance Plan cycle through a self-assessment.
- Assist districts in correcting noncompliance as soon as possible, but no later than one year after identification.
