Many of us are leaders in a building wearing many hats. One of those hats is coaching our teachers to be the best they can be for the students in their classroom. Guiding teachers through a coaching cycle helps our teachers grow. Jim Knight, Jessica Wise, Michelle Harris, and Amy Musante have shared some great tools in The IC Toolkit. Let's breakdown those parts.
Identify - The observer and teacher get a clear picture of the current reality in the classroom. This could be done by recording the class, looking at student work, reviewing assessment data, or some combination of these. With that information, great a goal with the teacher.
Learn - During the learn portion of the coaching cycle, the teacher learns a strategy to use in their room in impact teaching. This is often done with ideas shared by the observing and the teacher having choice on what to implement.
Improve - The teacher tries the new strategy in their classroom. Data is collected on student progress. The teacher and coach can make adjustment as necessary which may include selected a different strategy until the goal is met.
Introducing this cycle to your teachers at the beginning of the year can help you and your teachers have structure and focus as you work to impact instruction. #CESA3 #empoweringeducators #lead

We all want out teams to function at a high level and accomplish great things. We can do that if we commit to the 7 Commitments of a Great Team. Jon Gordon has created a plan to help teams make this happen. Let's talk about the first commitment!
Commit to Valuing Each Other
Committing to valuing each other is essential for any successful team because it builds trust, strengthens relationships, and creates a positive environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and respected. As Jon Gordon shares in his new book, when team members truly value one another, they’re more likely to support, communicate, and collaborate effectively—leading to greater unity, resilience, and shared success. How do you and your team members commit to valuing each other? #CESA3 #empoweringeducators #lead #JonGordon #7commitmentsofagreatteam

Many people are reading and learning more about The Anxious Generation. Jonathan Haidt wrote this book and as leaders it offers great research to reflect and think about. His focus for the book is why rates of mental illness went up in so many countries between 2010 and 2015 for Gen Z while older generations were much less affected. The change from play-based childhoods to phone-based childhoods is part of this research. CESA 3 is offering virtual learning sessions to learn more this summer with many people attending. If you are interested to learn more, we will be offering more in the fall and you can register at https://cesa3events.org/events/the-anxious-generation-fall-2025/. This is research leaders will want to know more about!

As we reflect on the prior school year as leaders, we think about how we can do things differently. This is such a great part of summer! There are so many things that can be reviewed and adjusted in the summer to help with the next year. There are some things that planning and procedures may not be able to address. Have you felt any of these?
1. Push through the challenge
2. Internal variables such as physical health and cognitive functioning are extraneous
3. Suffering and sacrifice are necessary parts of leadership
4. Basic physical health and fitness are luxuries and signs of lesser commitment
5. Emotional challenges, particularly outside of work, are to be stifled or hidden
These are feelings many leaders face. The School Leader's Game Plan by Scott A. Laliberte shares these common thought patterns leaders experience while leading a building or district. These thought patterns cause leaders to NOT be satisfied in their position. Laliberte also shares variables that impact leadership capacity. Reflect on the following as you think about your leadership role.
1. Physical well-being
2. Cognitive functioning and mental clarity
3. Emotional balance and health
4. Motivational clarity
5. Position-specific skills and attributes
You are not alone with the thought patterns you are experiencing. Reflect on how to break through those thought patterns.
